It's all well and good for the so-called experts to tell us that we need to eliminate this or that from our life in order to be successful or happy, but how often do they tell us what we need to do to create something positive in our lives in order to be successful or happy?  The answer is that it's a rarity for it to happen, at least in an outright and upfront way.

For several years now, I've been a practitioner of Callahan Techniques Thought Field Therapy.  For those of you not familiar with it, TFT is the progenitor of EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique).  It's a therapeutic system where negative/undesired emotions  are released by tapping on specific meridian points in a specific order.  This is called an algorithm.  There is even an algorithm for pain management.  In order for it to qualify as an official algorithm, it has to have a minimum success rate of 70%.  Dr Callahan is quite strict about this.

I just need to digress on one point for a minute or two, so please bare with me.  Let me go on record here as stating that I have nothing against EFT.  I don't have an axe to grind against the modality or the creator.  If it helps people to create a better life for themselves then, please, teach it to more people.  But if I see or hear one more person talking about the ancient art of EFT I'm going to scream and possibly even name them and shame them.  To claim that EFT is an ancient art is an outright lie.  Emotional Freedom Technique has been around for less than thirty years and according to my Concise Oxford English Dictionary, ancient definitely means older than thirty years.  Anybody claiming it to be an ancient therapy is outright lying to a naive public in a cynical attempt to separate you from your money.  Don't fall for it.  How do I know it's less than thiry years old?  Because TFT came before EFT and TFT isn't officially thirty yet.

Thanks for letting me clear that up.  Now, I'll admit I'm a big proponent of TFT.  I love it.  I would honestly tell you that it is a life saving modality.  I've actually used it twice on people to stop full-blown asthma attacks, it works that well.  One of them was asking us to call an ambulance.  I was so confident in the system that I used it on this woman and in less than two minutes her asthma attack had stopped.  A few months later I used it on a gentleman for the same purpose to the same effect.  I've used it on myself at a time when my life was in its darkest moments.  Yes, TFT is genuinely a life-saving technique.

But for me, I wouldn't call it life-changing.  I know it is for some, and I know quite a few for whom it has been life-changing.  But I'm not one of them.  Where TFT is incredible at eliminating the emotional turmoil surrounding traumatic events, getting rid of anger or guilt or depression, settling anxiety, what it doesn't do is create positive emotions.  Actually, let me qualify that.  There are two algorithms that create positivity.  one is the Peak Performance algorithm, which is used on people who are unable to visualize (interestingly, this is one of the few algorithms that has never worked on me) and there is the Self-Esteem algorithm (I've found some real benefit when I've remembered to use this one).  Having so few algorithms that create postive feelings has been the one thing that I've considered a "failure" of TFT as a system.

So I decided to go out and learn NLP, which is short for Neuro Linguistic Programming (or Psychology - depending on which school of thought you're coming from).  Wow.  I've found it to be a great set of tools for creating positivity in your life.  One of the reasons I'm such a fan of products and programs by Dr Robert Anthony is because almost all of them have some NLP technique in them and my experience leads me to the conclusion that that is why his programs are so successful.  As a quick aside, as well as hypnotherapy, Dr Anthony is qualified and certified in every therapeutic modality mentioned in today's post.

It was in fact, only yesterday that I took my final exam to become a qualified NLP Practitioner.  Now I just have to wait to see if I pass.  Wish me luck.
